INTEGRATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT
By leveraging innovative technology and the body’s natural ability to repair itself, we help our patients get back to their sports and lifestyle as quickly as possible.
PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY
PRP a safe, non-surgical treatment that utilizes proteins and growth factors within platelets and plasma from your own blood.
Blood is composed of 4 components: red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets. Platelets are the essential component that PRP therapy relies on to potentially heal chronic injuries and relieve pain, while plasma contains anti-inflammatory proteins.
Platelets are an incredible army of cells that circulate in your blood. They are primarily recognized for controlling bleeding. However, they also release over 1500 growth factors and proteins that have been documented to facilitate wound healing and tissue repair. Platelet-rich plasma therapy works by isolating and concentrating the platelets within your own blood and selectively injecting them into injured areas
Prolotherapy utilizes concentrated dextrose (sugar) that acts as a local irritant to trigger initial inflammation and release of grow factors to painful tendons, ligaments, and joints.
Prolotherapy’s effects result from both mechanical and physiological mechanisms. Mechanically, the actual ultrasound-guided needle injections cause additional micro trauma to the area, which your body attempts to heal by releasing inflammatory cells at the injection site mimicking an injury response. Physiologically, the solution releases growth factors associated with wound healing.
PERINEURAL INJECTION THERAPY
Perineural injection therapy, also known as neural prolotherapy, is minimally invasive and natural treatment option for soft tissue pain.
When receiving perineural therapy, mannitol is injected directly into the painful area just beneath the skin to superficial sensory nerves. This solution targets small nerves that can’t be seen on MRI or x-ray just underneath the surface of the skin that are oftentimes contributing to pain and inflammation.
HYALURONIC ACID INJECTIONS
Hyaluronic Acid (Synvisc) Injections offer an Health Canada approved method for treating mild to moderate osteoarthritis. They work by lubricating painful joints and promoting optimal function, especially for individuals who have not been able to achieve relief through other conservative measures.
They also provide a natural anti-inflammatory effect, reducing pain and often avoiding the need for steroid injections. They are an early intervention option for patients hoping to avoid joint replacement.
